Virginia Tech Football Announces Military Appreciation / White Effect Game Supporting IFHF

BLACKSBURG VA – Head Coach Frank Beamer and the Virginia Tech football team announced today that the Military Appreciation/White Effect game will take place this Saturday when the Hokies take on East Carolina at noon. The football team will wear a special white helmet, and 25 of these helmets will be auctioned off online at hokiesports.com. The helmets are being worn to honor those who have served in the military, are currently serving, and those who have lost their lives or were injured in the line of duty. The Hokies are wearing white in support of the “White Effect” game and to promote literacy in the State of Virginia. All proceeds will go to Herma’s Readers and the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

In addition, several activities are planned to recognize our Military throughout the game, including video tributes from soldiers currently deployed, a special band performance by the Marching Virginians, the Highty-Tighties and the East Carolina band, and a WWII B-25 flyover. The Virginia Tech coaches will also wear a special VT hat to show support for our troops.

The helmet auction will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept.10, and continue through Thursday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. Anyone wishing to bid on either item can do so by logging onto hokiesports.com/auction. There will be a minimum bid of $400 on the helmets and all orders will have a $25 shipping fee added to the end of the bid.

The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is a national leader in supporting the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and their families and has provided over $150 million in support for the families of military personnel lost in service to our nation and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans.
