After just over a year since its groundbreaking we are so pleased to open our 3rd Intrepid Spirit at Fort Campbell in Kentucky next week. IFHF first broke ground on June 13th, 2013 and on September 8th the center will be officially dedicated. The convenient location on Fort Campbell allows service members to receive Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) treatment and other psychological health services without having to separate them from their units or leave their families for extended periods of time. This proximity to family and friends is proven to enhance service members’ care and rehabilitation.
Days after the groundbreaking, Intrepid received a $250,000 from the Columbus Citizens Foundation. This was the second time Columbus Citizens Foundation had directed its generosity toward Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. In 2003, CCF donated $300,000 to IFHF to support its work on behalf of our wounded military men and women and their families. This generous donation from CCF helped greatly in making this center a reality.
Each Intrepid Spirit center cost approximately $11 million from creation to opening. All donations to IFHF go directly to funding centers, and nowhere else. IFHF has broken ground on 5 centers with the first two centers already operating at Fort Belvoir, VA and Camp Lejeune, NC. Fort Campbell will be the third fully-operational center in less than 5 years.
Intrepid Spirit at Fort Campbell will provide the most advanced diagnosis and treatment protocols for wounded heroes while creating effective programs for rehabilitation and recovery. It will also allow their dedicated multidisciplinary team to provide Warrior and Family Centered Care to patients with complex needs. This will contribute and support research and education by connecting with other centers and the National Intrepid Center of Excellence in Bethesda, MD.
Although our mission is not yet finished, we’re thrilled to celebrate this milestone in our mission to service our military men and women. We invite you to learn more about our mission, and if you’d like to support the construction of more Intrepid Spirit centers benefiting our nation’s heroes and their families, make a donation today. Your support means the world to those who have risked their lives in the line of duty.
