May is designated as Military Appreciation Month. The purpose of Military Appreciation Month is to recognize the “outstanding service of the brave men and women of the United States Military.” There are a number of recognition events throughout the month, including Loyalty Day, Armed Forces Week, Military Spouse Day, Victory In Europe Day, and Armed Forces Day. Military Appreciation Month leads up to one of the most well known military holidays of the year, Memorial Day. Memorial Day remembers the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives fighting for the United States. How can you recognize National Military Appreciation Month? Here are a few ideas:
Even if you don’t know a service member, that doesn’t mean you can’t do something to show them you care and appreciate their service. Care packages are a longstanding tradition to show appreciation directly to our service members. Need ideas for care packages? Here are 75 that cover holidays, themes, and best items to include.
There are scores of service members who can use a helping hand. The Disabled American Veterans organization provides numerous ways to support those who have served. Ideas include offering a ride to medical appointments or events as well as many types of hospital volunteering.
Two little words sometimes make a big difference in someone’s day. Saying “thank you” when you encounter a service member in your day-to-day travels. You never know how much of an impact those words can make on that service member!
Every year, numerous military service members suffer from the invisible wounds of war, including traumatic brain injuries & post-traumatic stress. The Intrepid Spirit Centers we build are specially equipped to treat and heal the invisible wounds of war affecting our service members. Currently over 90% of patients treated at Intrepid Spirit Centers return to active duty or regular life with their families upon completing treatment. Donating allows us to continue our mission to build Intrepid Spirit Centers and heal our heroes for years to come.
