Healing our heroes of the invisible wounds of war is our mission. Since 2000, over 400,000 men and women in the armed forces have been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Statistics show that around 50% of current Active Duty service members are under the age of 25, and young men between the ages of 18 and 24 are at the greatest risk for suffering a TBI in the armed forces.
We get asked frequently how you can help us achieve our mission and support our heroes. The answer is not as complicated as many think! The easiest thing you can do? Spread the word about the effects of traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress (PTS) in our service members. Since we focus on the invisible wounds of war, it can be difficult to identify someone suffering. Invisible wounds are just that: invisible.
For some, writing a check just isn’t enough to support our heroes. Looking to do more? Activate your community! Fundraisers are easier than ever to launch, even on Facebook.
That leads us to our first suggestion: Facebook Fundraisers! Facebook makes it easier than ever for users to support their favorite non-profit organizations. Facebook takes no fees or deductions from donations, so 100% of all donations go directly towards helping us heal our heroes. Many Facebook users have chosen to set up a fundraiser, especially for their birthdays, to help the cause. To learn more or start your own Facebook Fundraiser, click here.
Host A Local Fundraiser
Hosting your own event is another great way to raise awareness for our heroes and IFHF. Local events are also a great way to rally your community while simultaneously raising awareness for the cause. Events can range from something as simple as a bake sale, board game night, or BBQ cook-off to music concerts and sports tournaments like bowling, golf, or tennis.
Run For Charity
Select IFHF as your charity of choice in an upcoming event such as a charity run! Some large races such as the New York City Marathon provide guaranteed entry for participants who are running for charities.
Make your Amazon purchases count towards healing our heroes. Amazon has a sub-site called AmazonSmile. Everything is the same price on Amazon and AmazonSmile. The difference is, Amazon donates 0.5% of all qualifying AmazonSmile purchases towards a cause of your choice, including the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Who knew that your paper towel and book purchases could help heal our heroes?
We’re incredibly grateful for anything you choose to do in support of the brave men and women of the armed forces. If you have an idea for a fundraiser, or are already planning one, click here to tell us about it!
