Staff Accountant

The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund serves United States military personnel wounded or injured in service to our nation, and their families. Supporting these heroes helps repay the debt all Americans owe them for the sacrifices they have made in service to our nation. The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is a leader in supporting the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families. Begun in 2000 and established as an independent not-for-profit organization in 2003, the Fund has provided close to $150 million in support for the families of military personnel lost in service to our nation, and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans. These efforts are funded entirely with donations from the public, and hundreds of thousands of individuals have contributed to the Fund

The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is looking for a Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant computes, classifies, records, and verifies numerical data for use in maintaining accounting records by performing the duties below. Receives donations to Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, enters donations and donor information into a database, and responds to donors appropriately. Manages IFHF finances, Executive T&E documents, purchase requisitions and invoicing. Manages Sponsor communications and contributions for fundraising dinners. Manages supplies ordering, processes orders for the various centers as requested. Manages amazon, staples and paypal organization accounts. Responds to donor’s requests for updating donation account information.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Verifies and posts details of transactions, such as donations received and disbursed, and updates information in ledgers, computer spreadsheets and databases.
  • Keeps all information current for reporting purpose, files all documentation according to company standards, assists in organization’s annual audit
  • Receives all donations and properly logs in Raisers Edge. Prepares and mails donation confirmations to donors. Maintains donor database, makes all required updates, works with IT department on resolving any issues related to the donor database
  • Responds to inquiries regarding donations to IFHF, contacts donors to resolve questions, inconsistencies, missing data or updating donation information
  • Prepares and maintains financial spreadsheets and reports and reconciles report discrepancies and problems.
  • Codes data for input to financial data processing system according to company procedures. Enters information into accounting system in a timely manner
  • Reviews invoices for accuracy, resolves any discrepancies, submits for approval, enters into organization’s accounting system and processes payments in a timely manner
  • Submits approval forms for company purchases and other related entities, processes purchases once approved
  • Collects all receipts and supported documentation, properly files or scans into organized electronic files
  • Compiles and sorts documents related to IFHF and distributes accordingly
  • Prepares and mails award checks and other materials to IFHF support recipients
  • Prepares various reports as requested by the President and Grants Director
  • Prepares update reports for the Board of Directors on a regular basis.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have a 4 year degree in related field and/or 1 – 2 years related accounting and administrative experience. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Proficiency with computers, including database software. Sage and Blackbaud products a plus. Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary.
