Surviving Family Support Through May 12 2005
Support previously provided by the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund
Until May 12, 2005, The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund provided unrestricted grants to the families of military personnel who gave their lives in the current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The gifts, $11,000 to each spouse and an additional $5,000 to each dependent child, were intended to help these families through any immediate or long-term financial difficulties they may face. Our goal was to support them in their time of need, and to ensure that they know that our nation will never forget the sacrifice they have made for us.
If a family lost a spouse or parent in Iraq or Afghanistan prior to May 12, 2005, what steps do you need to take to ensure you receive this grant?
There is no action required on the part of the families to receive Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund support. The Fund receives information directly from the Casualty Office of each branch of the Armed Forces and processes contributions to the families. The Fund requires no application or other information from the families. U.S. Army Families: To provide family information to the Fund, the Army requires families to sign an Authorization for Disclosure of Information Form. This form is available from your Casualty Officer.
How long does the process take once my Casualty Officer release my family?s information?
Depending on the transfer of information from the Armed Forces to the Fund, the contributions may take up to several weeks to reach families.
