Hoops For Heroes reaches half-way mark of 500,000 free throws at Intrepid on Veterans Day

Dave Cummings, founder of the Hoops for Heroes initiative, hit the half-million mark in his quest to make one million free throws to raise money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund on Thursday, November 11th at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City, home to the charity beneficiary.

Cummings began his quest to make one million free throws on Veterans’ Day in 2009 and has shot every day since, averaging approximately 1,370 made free throws per day.  All proceeds he raises will benefit the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund which supports injured Veterans and their families.  The organization most recently completed the $60 million National Intrepid Center of Excellence, dedicated to the treatment of post traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury, next to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.
